Kumarghat, July 4 (TIWN): Kumaraghat's Ward 5 is facing a severe waterlogging crisis, affecting around 25 families and disrupting daily life. Despite repeated complaints to the Kumaraghat Municipal Council, no significant steps have been taken to address the issue. The area's inadequate drainage system is causing water to accumulate on roads, making them impassable during the rainy season.
Local resident Deb Singh Debbarma shared the struggles of living in a waterlogged area, "We face difficulties every day. The roads are knee-deep in water, and children can't go to school, patients can't be taken out, and daily chores are disrupted." The stagnant water has also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising concerns about dengue, malaria, and other diseases.
The prolonged waterlogging has increased health risks for the residents. Mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria are prevalent in such conditions. Moreover, the stagnant water can also lead to waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid fever. The residents are worried about the health implications and are seeking a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem.
The Kumaraghat Municipal Council had been informed about the issue in writing before the monsoon season, and Debbarma had even met with the Chairperson, who assured them that the issue would be addressed. However, no visible steps have been taken so far. The council's inaction has left the residents frustrated and helpless.
The residents are now pinning their hopes on media attention to bring the issue to the forefront. They hope that the Kumaraghat Municipal Council will take notice and work towards a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem. The council needs to take immediate action to address the issue and provide relief to the affected families.
