AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Forest department’s irregular employees protested in front of the main gate of Sepahijala Sanctuary demanding their permanent appointments.
720 workers and their family members were sitting in protest since Monday morning. However, no officials were seen addressing the agitators.
It is learnt that in August 2021, 720 workers were recruited from all over the state under the contractual Banamitra project initiated by the Forest department. At that time, the salary of the workers was 3000 rupees. In that contractual job, it was mentioned in the terms and conditions that their salary would be 3000 rupees and their salary would increase by some amount over time, according to the agitators.
They also said, currently, their salary is 4820 rupees but now the employees are demanding to be regularized for the certainty of their future.
Bishalgarh police along with the TSR force rushed to the spot to control the situation. On the other hand, tourists were in trouble as the main gate of the Sepahijala Sanctuary was see locked during the protest.
