AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Tripura Government to start purchasing crops from farmers from December 19 under Minimum Support Price scheme at Rs. 23. A video conference was held today at the Secretariat Hall to review various important issues and preparations related to the procurement of paddy produced during the last season, informed Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
A meeting was held with the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of various Panchayat Samiti of the entire state, Sub-Divisional Magistrates of various subdivisions, BDOs of various blocks, officers of various levels of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department and Food Department through video conference.
Minister of Food Department Sushanta Chowdhury who was also present in the meeting praised the government on its decision to purchase crops from farmers twice a year.
“Various issues related to procurement of paddy at minimum support price were discussed in this meeting. I believe that every decision of the government for the farmers will play a major role in improving the economic situation of all farmers in this state,” Chowdhury told media.
“It can also be said that every time we are buying the crops, we are increasing the crop prices too for the benefit of the farmers,” he added.
He also mentioned on how the government helped the farmers during flood season and this crop purchase would benefit the farmers further.
