AGARTALA, Oct 23 (TIWN): Existence of land-mafia raj that was alleged repeatedly by public, has now been proven as facts as East Agartala police arrested Paresh Ghosh who demanded Rs. 2 crores from a person named Apu Rani Sarkar who is selling a land beside national highway in the Chandrapur-Khayerpur route. It almost turned a culture in the state, either purchasing or selling, a person has to pay a due to the local mafia gang. Such mafias are in various forms such as ----- local party leaders/ club members etc and their illegal activities started in the past recent years. This time, under CM Dr. Manik Saha Government, East Agartala police lifted such a mafia from the Chandrapur area. The land mafia Paresh Ghosh will be interrogated after bringing him to police remand to find out who else are in his connection.
The police action was initiated after Apu Rani Sarkar complained against a group for demanding a hefty amount after he proceeded to sell his land.
“A person will sell his land and s/he does not need to pay to anyone else. We request the public to come to us if such a situation erupts. Instead of being afraid, the public should complain to police,” said SDPO Deba Prasad Roy.
“These are organized crimes and whoever is linked with it, police will lift each of them,” said Roy.
“There are specific IPCs against organized crimes and those sections are being imposed in this case,” said East Agartala PS OC- Rana Chatterjee.
