AGARTALA, March 20 (TIWN): CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury on Wednesday took charge as Tripura Assembly opposition leader by officially shaking hands with the Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen. “I was always the Opposition Leader but not technically. Today, I could take charge as the Opposition Leader technically”, said Jitendra Chowdhury while interacting with media after becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly House.
Other CPI-M MLAs also accompanied Jitendra Chowdhury when he took charge as the opposition leader. The opposition leader’s post was vacated after opposition Tipra Motha party joined with BJP in a political alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha Election.
Reacting to media about how as an opposition leader, he would play the role, Chowdhury said, “Opposition leader not only oppose the Govt. My full support will be with the government’s good works and the lapses will be highlighted. The government will be under pressure to finish the ongoing works and focus on public issue’s solution.”
“As the opposition leader, I will raise my both hands to support the positive steps of the government. The ruling Govt and MLAs can not accept the flaws of the governmental works. So as opposition leader I have to raise those issues before the public. I will humbly do my job with my experience as a legislator and also as an MP previously,” said Chowdhury.
