AGARTALA, June 29 (TIWN): At least seven persons lost their lives and five are still critical including children in Kumarghat Rath Jatra festival where due to electric wire’s collapse with high voltage 6 died on spot and 1 yesterday died in GB hospital. Today, all the dead bodies were handed over to the families. Devastated families’ screaming in the cremation ground was heartbreaking and mass gathering happened there during the cremation. Many elderly parents who shared the deaths of their young children left speechless.
As per the primary report, due to height of the Rath it had crashed with the electric wire and the power was not cut during the program and the electric wire with high voltage collapsed on the devotees who were standing in front of the Rath. They were spot dead.
On the other hand, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma asked, “If in the same way, the Rath could proceed with that much height why did it happen on the last day ?”
Tripura Govt has sought a report about the incident whereas the incident happened due to collaborated negligence of various departments. Many have blamed religious organization for making the Rath so big in size whereas some other question, why was iron used though engineers believe that there is no difference between iron and wet-woods when it’s about electrocution. The electric lines with high volt were enough to kill the people on spot.
