AGARTALA, June 8 (TIWN): Tripura Agriculture Dept has declared to produce spices and among them, black-pepper production will be given huge focus.
In a press conference held by Agriculture Dept officers on Wednesday at Secretariat in this regard. Addressing media, the officials said, “A target has been set for 2023-24 and roadmap has been drawn to succeed it. Some steps have already been taken like huge areas will be brought under fruit cultivation. Pineapple, Mango, Orange, Banana, Jackfruit have been given huge importance. In vegetables, winter / hybrid vegetables will be given priority. Also spices will be cultivated and among them, ginger, black pepper, and turmeric are on focus”.
Flower cultivation will also be given huge importance. Seasonal and regular cultivation all will be done but training also will be given to cultivators so that focus can be given on commercialization.
Water areas will be increased. Mushroom cultivation, palm oil are also the target.
Also seeds from foreign lands have been imported and cultivation started, informed Agriculture Dept officials.
