AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): Allegation raised against EVI Chakrapani Das for harassing truck drivers for own benefits. Recently Minister Pranjit Singh Roy and Sushant Chowdhury visited the Churaibari Transport Department and Sales Department at the Tripura-Assam border in the North District. After the visit of the two Ministers, the rules and guidelines of Churaibari Transport Department were changed. According to the RC, the passing weight of vehicles loaded with various goods was previously not accepted by the employees of Churaibari Transport Department. Due to this, the drivers are facing some problems.
If the drivers want to pay the overload fine online, the new MVI Chakrapani Das of Churaibari Transport Department does not agree. According to him, the order has come from higher authority. Centering this everyday chaos continues at the Churaibari zone.
On Monday morning, five trucks numbered AS31C/0590,AS31C/0901,TR01AV/1664,TR01AK/1887 and TR01AF/1608 went to Churaibari Transport Office with various goods underloaded according to their RC weight. Then MVI Chakrapani Das came to cut fine. Then the drivers said that they have brought underload according to the weight passing of RC. Then MVI said, from now on the underload will not be accepted as per the previous passing rate and the drivers have to pay the overload fine.
A protest was staged centering this issue. Later the local authority rushed to the spot to manage the issue.
