AGARTALA, Feb 20 (TIWN): Centering the action of police over opposition CPI-M party’s murdered worker’s dead body handing-over to the party and deceased’s family, Agartala city on Sunday witnessed an eight hours long protest and constant debate between CPI-M leaders and police.

Reacting to the uncomfortable situation, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “What police is doing, is not part of a civilized society’s behaviour. It is unexpected”.

“If a police official dies, then also his body is given tribute by police. Is road the appropriate place for a party to pay tribute to their murdered worker ?”, asked Barman.

CPI-M supporter Dilip Sukla Das was murdered in Kalyanpur by BJP Panchayat Prdahan Krishna Kamal Das, who has been arrested in Kalyanpur. Police have claimed the motive of the murder is ‘not political’ whereas deceased’s family said Dilip Sukla Das was murdered with political muscle of the Gram Panchayat Pradhan.

But police at Agartala GB hospital did not allow CPI-M members to take the body to CPI-M headquarter. Police wanted to take the dead body to Kamalpur directly.

However after eight hours of protest staged by CPI-M, the dead body of Dilip Sukla Das was allowed to be paid floral tribute at Circuit house area on roadside.

Sudip Barman said, “It is barbaric. Police’s ego-fight with opposition is barbaric”.
