AGARTALA, Feb 20 (TIWN): Agartala police led by SDPO Ajay Kumar Das punished civilians with age-old ‘murga’ punishment, sit-up punishment by catching ears which have drawn resented reactions from the netizens in the post poll Tripura.
Few netizens called it ‘overaction’ by police and few slammed police saying ‘as they have no other such serious works’.
Also, question remains whether police have the legality of spot punishment.
Gatherings have been not allowed in city corners late night aiming to stop any violence or disturbance in the city but Agartala police created a ‘lockdown’ like situation in the city, causing unnecessary harassment to the civilians.
Tripura Election was held on February 16 and the result awaits 2nd March.
