AGARTALA, Dec 8 (TIWN): Cases of domestic violence, crime against women are increasing on an alarming note in the last few months in Tripura yet the Women Commission has nothing to say about it. In yet another brutal incident, a housewife tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire after being physically tortured by her husband. The incident occurred at Belonia Yesterday night.

Reportedly, the victim identified as Purnima Dey (40) got married to Krishna Dey a few years ago. The husband used to torture her on an everyday basis for money, alleged her sister. On yesterday night, her husband brutally beat her, and out of pain and helplessness, the wife tried to end her life by pouring kerosene on her body and setting herself on fire.

When the neighbours noticed the incident they immediately rushed and rescued her and brought her to GB hospital. She got severe burns all over the body and she's currently under treatment now at Agartala GB Hospital.

A case has been filed against the accused husband at Belonia police station. The Belonia police has started investigating the matter.
