AGARTALA, Dec 6 (TIWN): TPF chief Patalkanya Jamatia on Monday called for a 12-hour shutdown across the state, alleging extreme law and order issues in the state. The strike was called just after the murder of two TSR Jawans.
In support of the shutdown, TPF activists staged a sit-in on the National Road blockade at Patichari in Shantir Bazar subdivision on Monday at around 10am. Upon hearing the news of the blockade, a large police force led by OC of Shantir Bazar Police Station Subrata Chakraborty arrived at the spot.
Later, DCM Saptaparni Majumder from Shantir Bazar Sub-divisional Magistrate's office came to the spot. After a long two-hour siege, the national road blockade was lifted at 12 noon on the initiative of the Sub-Divisional Administration and Police Department. After arresting the blockaders, they were taken to Manpathar outpost police station.
Shanti Bazar OC Subrata Chakraborty told the media about today's blockade. TPF's call off has had a huge impact on Birchandra Nagar Bazar and Monpathar Bazar. On the other hand, the closure of TPF in Shantir Bazar town and Baikhora Bazar did not have any effect. The shops in Shantir Bazaar and Baikhora Bazaar were open and traffic was normal as usual.
