AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): Marrige of girls below age of 18 is strictly prohibited in India and also a punishable offence. Marriage of minor girls in rural parts of Tripura is a common phenomenon. No impact could be seen even after various awareness programs by Govt departments and Women Commission. Such incident came up again, a 14 years old minor girl was rescued before getting married in Nandan Nagar area on Thursday.
After receiving news from neighbours, Childline and GB outpost Police led a raid jointly in Nandan Nagar area and rescued the minor.
The Childline was succeeded in their mission to stop the marrige and took a written from the parents. Rescue team counselled the family and the girl and also explained marriage below 18 is illegal and if anyone is involved with child marriage they will be imprisoned.
