AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): A protest rally of Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was held at Maharani on Thursday afternoon against the vandalism of various Hindu temples including inhuman torture on Hindus in Bangladesh.

But when the rally was started on Thursday a huge Police force led by Udaipur SDPO, Dhruba Nath obstructed the rally as the Gomti DM issued Section-144 at Maharani to prevent untoward incident centering the protest rally. Also the rally was unpermitted. While the Police obstructed the rally members of BJP, VHP, they further attacked on Police. Later a heavy tussle occurred among Police and BJP, VHP members, where 3-4 members received minor injuries.

Meanwhile, after the issuance of section 144, the police, TSR and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot to Maharani Bazaar at around 2 pm and closed all the shops.  Centering the heavy tussle, heavy tension erupted in the entire Maharani area.

Huge police force was deployed to bring the situation under control.
