AGARTALA, Sep 28 (TIWN): The roar of being an imaginary Tiger of the Democratic system unminding Court's power is now down now as Biplab Deb has taken 180 degree turn from his statement where he claimed that a CM is more powerful than High Court. Tripura CM Biplab Deb while addressing at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan clearly said that if officials violate Court's order nobody will be jailed even if Court orders to send them to jail. CM said, as he is the most powerful person of the system (above Court) and also the Police-Minister, so no police will obey Court's order without his consultancy. After the statement, the issue not only became a national issue but also petitions were filed against CM Biplab Deb.
After the news was viral, Chief Justice Akil Kureshi summoned the Advocate General seeking clarification on CM's statement.
The Advocate General Sidhhartha Sankar Dey sought time from the Chief Justice and said that CM did not undermine the judiciary but yellow journalism should be blamed.
By that time, CM BIplab Deb, also in his social media, accepted that the Court is most powerful and he did not intend to insult the Court. At the same time, Deb blamed the media for wrongly quoting him.
Then Senior Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman requested the Chief Justice to conduct an investigation, however, Chief Justice asked to end the matter there.
But the entire incident was an internal affair of the Court over suo-moto cognizance decision but few media had leaked the High Court’s internal meeting publicly yesterday.
