AGARTALA, July 23 (TIWN): Local people caught a thief red-handed at Belonia on Friday. The accused confessed his crime and said he was stealing money to buy drugs for him.
Reportedly, the accused identified as Vijay Rishi Das was detained by locals from Saraseema area under Bilonia police station. In the first stage, the arrested youth started threatening and abusing the locals, but later he confessed the crime. The theft incident took place at Dilip Sarkar's house in the border area last night after the locals caught Vijay Rishi Das on suspicion.
On being asked the locals said yesterday Satyanarayana Puja was held at Dilip Sarkar's house. The accused was present in that event and his moves seemed suspicious to them When Dilip Sarkar saw the accused in the area on morning, he called him and the footprints of thief matched with his feet, said Sarkar. When he asked him, the accused refused the allegation. Later when the locals came and grabbed him, he admitted that he had stolen from Dilip Sarkar's house. The locals informed the police immediately. Police arrested Vijay Rishi Das and took him to the police station.
A case has been filed against him in Belonia police station. Police is investigating the matter.
