AGARTALA, Dec 19 (TIWN): The Tripura government has designated administrators to run twenty civic bodies in the state despite protests by different political parties. However, the postponed Local Body Elections in Tripura to help BJP to avoid defeat and doubling seat numbers
The residency of the majority of these civic bodies involving six Nagar Panchayats, 13 municipal councils, and one municipal corporation, is scheduled to end inside the following three days.
The state Urban Development Department gave appointment letters to the magistrates, who were probably to accept duty as administrators to these civic bodies from Thursday. While the District Magistrate of West Tripura will assume liability for the Agartala Municipal Corporation, sub-divisional magistrates will act as administrators of other civic bodies in the state.
IAcross the country, the election is presently occurring by maintaining the protocols issued for COVID 19 but in Tripura, the public authority is delaying the political decision.
While contradicting the decision, CPIM Leader Pabitra Kar said, “The government’s decision to appoint administrators to civic bodies is an undemocratic and autocratic one. Different states are conducting elections from the panchayat to the assembly level, but in Tripura, the BJP is avoiding elections as they are losing their base here. If there is a vote in the municipality, the ruling government will have to face a tough challenge and face defeat. So the party is now postponing the entire procedure to avoid defeat.”
While addressing in his Mohanpur constituency, Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said that seats of ADC will be increased. This has been increased amid the Election Commission has been playing a puppet role to the BJP Govt by not announcing ADC Election date amid nationwide elections are going on.
