AGARTALA, Aug 30 (TIWN): Petrol prices in India are currently at a 20-month high, while diesel is selling at its highest rate ever in some parts of the country.These rate increases are despite the fact that global crude oil prices are off their highs. The primary reason for this recent spike is levying of higher taxation, which has been reported nationwide throughout media. Northeast is not too exempted from the prices tags giving a lift of prices everyday. With 2 paisa raised in Agartala petrol prices, the cost of petrol is now Rs. 82.32 whereas the highest price is at Gomati District with Rs. 83.5. Diesel price also touching Rs.80 as on Sunday it’s Rs. 76.77 in Agartala. At a time when thousands of Indians are grappling with salary cuts and job losses, the centre and state governments in the country are increasing taxes charged on petrol, diesel and cooking gas to manage their own finances.
