AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): In August, 2019, the Central Govt had claimed to be agreed with Tripura CM Biplab Deb’s demand of CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority Act) fund and sanctioned Rs. 183 crores under CAMPA, handedover to Tribal Welfare Minister Mebar Jamatia.
On that time, the cheque was trolled by netizens saying that type of cheque was never seen by them.
However, after around 11 months of passage whether the cheque was sanctioned or not and how far utilization was done, nothing is clear.
On that time after the sanctioning, Chief Minister tweeted, “I would like to express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi ji & Minister MOEFC Prakash Javdekar ji on behalf of people of Tripura for sanctioning CAMPA fund to our State. This was our long awaited demand”.
It can be mentioned here that Centre framed CAMPA with an intention to conserve nature and its natural resources amidst the various development works. The objective of the Act must be fulfilled by utilising the CAMPA funds only for the purpose it is meant for. It should efficiently be used only for afforestation and wildlife conservation activities.
Recently, Forest Survey of India (FSI) released its biennial State of Forests Report 2017 that stated that forest cover in the country has increased by about one per cent, but several other reports highlight that this increase is not due to increase in forest area but is the artefact of increase in agricultural green cover.
