Like other Northeast States, Tripura witnessed violent protests against the Act.Pradyot Manikya, who was invited to Delhi by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a discussion, said Tripura was never under British rule and the State has already accommodated persecuted migrants from Bangladesh. Now, Pradyot Manikya is all set to file a petition challenging CAB in Supreme Court.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, now approved by Parliament and awaiting presidential assent, offers a path to Indian citizenship for non-Muslim minority refugees who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh.
