AGARTALA, Aug 22 (TIWN): Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Deb Barman while addressing in a seminar at Pragna Bhawan on “Climate Change Issues for Senior Level Officials†said that without preserving nature, sustainable development is never possible.
Jishnu Deb Barman said, “Before 50 years there was a concept that development and forest areas can not go at parallel, but it’s an old concept. Today the message is if the development needs to be sustained then nature has to be preserved. Without nature, the development will not be sustainable”.
The Deputy CM further said, “It is often said when Northeast has much surroundings with forest, what’s the need of worrying it, but in reality our duty comes first as we have to preserve it”.
Deb Barman informed 65% areas in Tripura are forest area covered.
