AGARTALA, Aug 6 (TIWN): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday made it clear in the Parliament that 371 will never be touched in Northeast states and nobody should be confused about that.
“I want to assure my people in Northeast and similar states, please don’t be mislead”, Amit Shah said.
The Centre on Monday scrapped Article 370, which granted special provisions
to Jammu and Kashmir , and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This would mean that laws under the Indian Constitution will be applicable to Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, special provisions have been provided to some other states under the Constitution of India, listed in Articles 371 and 371(A-J). While Articles 370 and 371 have been a part of the Constitution since January 26, 1950, Articles 371(A-J) were incorporated through amendments under Article 368, which lays down the power of the Parliament to amend the Constitution and procedure therefor.
Amit Shah said, Article 370 and 371 is totally different, has no connection with each other.
