AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): For smooth functioning of PWD works and time to time maintenance of roadways, Govt of Tripura has formed ‘Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring’ unit (in short form PBM). The unit will function under monitoring of PWD Chief Engineer and will be responsible for budgeting, monitoring all maintenance works. The Planning dept will function for 1) survey and data-base inventory, 2)prioritization. The Delivery section will focus on 1) Contract procedures, 2) Contract Documentation, 3) Contract arrangement, 4) Execution of works and supervision. Monitoring and Supervision Dept will handle these parts : 1) Monitoring, 2) Review & Evaluation, 3) Technical and Financial auditing. The unit will be constituted with one Additional Chief Engineer / Superintending Engineer assisted by one executive engineer and two assistant engineers, junior engineers, two draftsmen, computer operators under direct control of the Chief Engineer, PWD, (R&B).

Govt of Tripura also has taken few more decisions for undisrupted maintenance works of PWD. In a notification, Deputy Secretary of PWD (R&B) Nirmal Paul said, the Govt will focus on the quality maintenance works. PWD (excluding DWS) is under Chief Minister Biplab Deb.

It was decided as after each maintenance work, at a sudden splash of rain, roadways become pathetic. So to over the poor road quality Govt has decided to “stop practicing of mixing carpeting and seal coat ingredients during constructions, improvement, strengthening and re-carpeting”. Latest technology will be used by mechanical means.

Also Govt planning to buy stone aggregates replacing brick-chips.
