AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): Congress National President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday at his Guwahati rally remined the Northeast people that it was only Congress in vast number of protesters which stopped the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) to be passed in the Rajya Sabha. Gandhi said, “It is our duty to save each state’s culture, tradition. Either it’s a big state like Uttar Pradesh or small like Tripura, but attempt of suppressing anyone’s voice is called dictatorship, which hurts the Indian constitution. Congress was against Citizenship Amendment Bill and will be. Don’t forget Congress opposed CAB and in your bad times, Congress stood beside you and thus I hope you will stand by Congressâ€. Talking about NRC, Rahul Gandhi said, “No true Indian will be outcast from the NRC list under Congress regimeâ€. It can be noted here, the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) lapsed in Rajya Sabha on February 13, 2019 after the house was adjourned sine die on the last day of the Budget session.
According to the Rajya Sabha Legislative Procedure, a bill pending in the Upper House which has not been passed by Lok Sabha does not lapse on the dissolution of the Lower House. But a bill which is passed by Lok Sabha, is pending in Rajya Sabha lapses on the dissolution of Lok Sabha and Rahul Gandhi today sought Northeast vote banks on that ground.
Rahul Gandhi further said, “Decades after decades, people of Northeast lived in peace and harmony. Northeast has a culture, tradition and also it is united by brotherhood, but under BJP and RSS, whole Northeast is burning, either it is Arunachal or Tripura.
He assured too that loans of unemployed youths will be relaxed and allowances to be given to all poor people's bank accounts.
