AGARTALA, Feb 7 (TIWN): Slamming the BJP Govt for imposing sedition charges against Tripura leaders including Royal Scion Pradyot Manikya, Ex-Finance Minister of the Congress Govt Palaniappan Chidambaram said, “‘In Tripura, if you speak against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, you will be charged with sedition!’

“Section 124A of IPC that defines the offence of 'sedition' must go lock, stock and barrel”, he further added.

The issue was raised after Tripura Police filed a sedition case against four leaders including Tripura’s Royal Scion Pradyot Manikya. The other three leaders are : 1) INPT General Secretary Jagadish Debbarma, 2) Borok People Human Rights Organization leader Antony Debbarma, 3) Tipraha (IPFT) leader Aghore Debbarma

They protested against Citizenship Bill before faced the sedition charges.

Palaniappan Chidambaram is an Indian politician and attorney who currently serves as Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and formerly served as the Union Minister of Finance of India. Chidambaram is a corporate lawyer was and an important member of the last Congress-led government.
