AGARTALA, Jan 18 (TIWN): Education Minister Ratan lal Nath on Friday while addressing in a seminar on Kokborok language said that “Language is like our mother, closed to us forverâ€.
The Minister also delivered a part of his speech in Kokborok.
“Around 6,500 languages are there in whole world. Out of them around 2000 languages are using talked by nearly 1000. Out of them around 1700 languages are used in India. Out of them major languages are 122. Total are 23 languages are constitutionally granted”, he said.
“Highest speaking language is Chinese and second is English / French, 3rd, 4th is Hindi, 5th Arabic and Bengali in 8th position. Thus, language is like mother. If you do not develop own language till then that community will not develop much”, he said.
