AGARTALA, Sep 14 (TIWN): Tripura Left Party delegates on Friday have met State Election Commission G K Rao demanding to defer the Panchayat by-election, which is undergoing massive violence and maximum candidates could not submit nominations till the last date of nomination filing day (Sep 11) due to open-rigging of ruling BJP. In a press conference at Melarmath party Office led by CPI-M leader Gautam Das, Sudarshan Bhattacharjee from RSP, Ranjit Majumder of CPI, Raghunath Sarkar of Forward Bloc have announced that Left party delegates meeting the State Election Commission have demanded to "defer" and "re-schedule" the whole Election procedure. "Out of 35 blocks, in total 28 blocks ruling BJP didn't allow opposition candidates to submit nominations. Before each block office, BJP activists were deployed to continue rigging. In Yuvaraj Nagar block office, in front of BDO the nominations were snatched from the candidates. Physical attacks were reported from many blocks". "This is not the single case, but across the blocks BJP has snatched nominations from candidates as they (BJP) don't want any contestant", Gautam Das said.
"BJP's ally IPFT was also not left by BJP from physical attacks. In Boxonagar, Dukli, Kamalpur police officials were attacked, hospitalized. Such election never held in Tripura earlier", Das told media.
"Earlier in Tripura people voted amid celebrations but BJP has murdered Democracy in this by-election. Even BDOs were not allowed to hold meetings with all parties. State Election Commission also couldn't play role neutrally", Das said.
"On this violent background, we (Left Parties) have demanded to defer and re-schedule the by-election. Infact BJP's ally IPFT too have demanded the same. In deputation, we have demanded also for safety of the candidates, free and fair election under new schedule", he added.
