AGARTALA, June 6 (TIWN): The increasing fuel price, cooking gas prices leading massive protests by the opposition parties and Congress is taking a leading role in it. A protest rally was held today at Agartala by Youth Congress and NSUI, staging further demonstration with cooking gas and banners. On the background of the protest, Tripura Congress leader Gopal Roy suggested BJP led state govt in Tripura to decrease at least 15 % VAT on petrol.Today in Agartala petrol price is Rs. 73.40, whereas on yesterday it was Rs. 73.50. “Right now, 20 % VAT is imposed on petrol and 13.5 % VAT has been imposed upon diesel. So, according to Tripura’s price rate, if 15 % VAT is decreased then only 5 % VAT will stay and 15 rupees will be downed atpetrol price. Then in case of diesel, if 15 % is decreased then only 3.5 % VAT will exist. If Govt takes this action for the welfare of common men it will stable the fuel price, then 15 rupees will be reduced in petrol price. In the same manner diesel will be downed at 10 rupees and it will be limited within 60 rupees and petrol price will also down below 70 %â€, said Gopal Roy.
Before the protest was held, a joining programme was conducted at Congress Bhawan led by State Congress President Birjit Sinha. Total 100 people joined in Congress leaving BJP, CPI-M, said the Congress President.
“Fuel prices are on hike and also recently the cooking gas prices were spiked up. In our time the subsidy was 417 which is now Rs. 493. Recently 48 rupees have been increased by the Modi Govt on cooking gas", Congress agitators told media.
