AGARTALA, May 26 (TIWN): Whereas resentments have brewed among the public for the banning of plastic carry bags in the state, but Health Minister Sudip Barman in a campaigning launched against plastic-uses conducted by 'The Himalayan Cleanup' at Agartala said that existing of plastics also causes water-logs and the ongoing hour-long water-logging problems of the city is due to plastic bags uses since decades.
"Within few years, the weight of plastic will be more than the marine lives. Thus it's extremely important to beat the plastic uses", the Minister said.
"The plastic is not only killing the marine lives but also damaging the soil. Tripura is also heavily suffering due to plastic uses which leads water-logs with a light raining. Because the plastic is not allowing the water to flow", he said.
"Agartala flood like situations are due to availability of plastic uses.Even plastics are existing everywhere inside the soil as it's a 'non-biodegradable' substance", Barman added.
