AGARTALA / AIZAWL, March 6 (TIWN): On receiving specific information, a joint operation was launched by Aizwal Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Special Branch (Narcotics) on the evening of 5th March 2019 in Vaiwakawn, Aizawl which led to apprehension of one individual with 156 Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of Rs 2,000 denomination amounting to Rs 3,12,000. In follow up ops, the apprehended individual identified as Joseph Vanlalhruaia a resident of Ramhlum South, Aizawl also disclosed that he had hidden one .22 Pistol with ammunition in his house.
The apprehendee & the recoveries were handed over to the Special Branch (Narcotics) and an FIR was also lodged for the same. Assam Rifles has been proactive in acting against elements exploiting Mizoram as a hub for FICN. The state forms part of the area of responsibility of Headquarter 23 Sect Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East).
