According to sources, Hasina left Dhaka on Monday at 2:30 pm from Ganabhaban, the Prime Minister's official residence, on a military helicopter. She was accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, and headed to a "safer place."
A senior official from the Bangladesh Prime Minister's Office confirmed Hasina's departure as violence erupted. Her current whereabouts are unknown, and the situation in Dhaka remains highly volatile.
Thousands of protesters have stormed Hasina's official residence, defying a military curfew. The protests were sparked by widespread demonstrations against a quota system reserving 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans from Bangladesh's 1971 War of Independence.
