Islamabad, May 10 : Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday said that internet services across the country will remain suspended for an indefinite period.
The Internet services were disrupted as protests erupted, following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest. Social networking websites Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp were also suspended. NetBlocks, a global internet monitoring company said that internet service providers across Pakistan are facing problems, and confirmed that the internet has been completely blocked in some areas. Amnesty International, on the other hand, termed the suspension of internet service as an act against 'freedom of expression' and said that such measures limit people's access to information and freedom of expression. The amnesty has called on the PTA and the Ministry of Interior to immediately withdraw the internet ban.
