Tokyo, July 8 (TIWN) Japan on Monday urged Iran to follow its commitments under a 2015 nuclear agreement with major powers and refrain from taking further actions to undermine it, after Tehran said it had started enriching uranium above the limit set by the deal.
"We'd like to strongly encourage Iran to abide by the nuclear agreement," Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasutoshi Nishimura said at a press conference, adding that Tokyo has been communicating with Tehran at various levels. The remarks by the government spokesman came a day after Iran said it will exceed its low-enriched uranium stockpile limit on June 27. A spokesman for the Iran Atomic Energy Organization said that Iran may boost uranium enrichment to up to a concentration of 20 percent, higher than the 3.67 percent allowed under the accord.
