The accident occurred at around 6.30 a.m., at the Marsandiz railway station, around 8 km from Ankara's main station, the BBC reported
The train was going from Ankara to the city of Konya.
Images from the scene showed emergency services working to rescue people from badly damaged carriages.
Search and rescue efforts were underway and Governor Vasip Sahin said "technical investigations" have begun to ascertain what caused the accident.
