AGARTALA, August 23 (TIWN):Governor P. manabha Balakrishna Achariya will visit BRU Refugee camp at Kanchanpur Sub-division under North Tripura district on Sunday. In the meantime seven member committee set up by Tripura High Court will visit the camp at 25-28th of the month.
Talking on Bru refugees, Mr Acharya expressed serious concerned over the status of the people living in six camps of North Tripura for past 17 years. He is going to meet the Brus living in the camps tomorrow who had to flee from Mizoram in 1997 following a communal clash.“I will take up the matter with centre and shall try to settle 40,000 Brus either in Tripura or in Mizoram at the earliest. I could not understand why these people of a democratic country have been suffering from inhumanity,” Mr Acharya added.
Earlier High Court of Tripura ordered to set up a 7 member committee to look into the matter and submit the report within 12th September. Accordingly the seven member committee consisting of three officials from union government, one from State Government and another three representative from NGO of Assam, West Bengal and Delhi respectively shall arrives the State on 25th August, says Secretary of Revenue Department govt. of Tripura Swapan Saha. The Seven members committee is supposed to visit the refugee camp from 26-28th of the month. After that they will submit the report in High Court within 12th September.
It is to be mentioned here that about 30,000 bru refugees is still remaining in Tripura consisting of six camps. Minister Manik Dey visits the camp yesterday to observe the conditions of the refugees.
