AGARTALA, August 23 (TIWN): The emergency landing of Governor’s chopper in remote Bairagipara J B School ground in Kalayanpur two days ago made Tripura Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya to understand the dismal figure of education in Tripura. Talking to media today he said it sounds good and make anybody happy that Tripura is having school at least each in every kilometer but if doesn’t yield any output what is the use of such infrastructure.“It pains me when I found 15 teachers are appointed for 36 students with a building in the school. If students are not sufficient in the schools then the authority should amalgamate a few schools together with best infrastructure; otherwise, outflow of students from the state for simple graduation,” Acharya pointed out.

The statement of the Governor is assumed to be significant when Manik Sarkar led left front desperately trying to please the tribal by building schools, hospitals and roads with centrally sponsored project to retain the vote bank.

The governor also stated he was informed that in many schools teachers are appointed but there is no sufficient student. So, concept of proxy teachers has come in, which not only frustrates the aims of education, also percolate wrong message in the society.

To promote national integration and value based education, Acharya mooted an idea to start fellowship and teachers exchange program with some selected universities and colleges of the country.

He said at least five Indian universities of Delhi, Mumbai and Karnataka have agreed to the proposal of to have fellowship for the teachers of Tripura. Initially, the teachers will come to Tripura from those universities and teach the students and similarly, teachers of Tripura will go there.

“I shall speak to education minister and Chief Minister as well to start the program at government’s initiative by which teachers from outside cities will be coming to remote schools at least for a month to teach English, Mathematics, Science and Hindi in turn teachers from here will also go those schools and colleges under the program to interact with the students and teachers,” he attributed.

“Unless an academician from Delhi or Mumbai stays in Tripura, Nagaland or Mizoram village at least for a month how can he feels brotherhood for fellow Indian,” he maintained.

He informed after assuming charge of Tripura, he had a talk with five Vice Chancellors of Delhi, Mumbai and Karnataka based universities and they agreed to the proposal.

“I also requested them to start courses on Indian tribal dialects in the universities for better understanding of the region in rest of India. This will also help to get better integration among the people of our country,” he said.

If Indian universities are running courses on a number of foreign languages do they not start courses on hundreds of tribal dialects and culture of our own country, he questioned.
