AGARTALA, Nov 23 (TIWN): Tripura is undergoing total shutdown called by opposition BJP and Congress following senior journalist Sudip Datta Bhaumik’s murder on Nov 21 by State Rifles officials. From transport system to markets all are paused in the strike and a huge response have been given to the strike called by the oppositions. Since midnight BJP locked all the offices, institutions with flags and banners calling the mass to participate in the 12 hours strike as a part of protesting journalist’s murder by State Rifles officials. On the other side, opposition Congress has called a 24 hours strike, in addition to the strike hours of BJP.
In various parts of the state protests are going on by journalists, students, politicians reacting against the barbaric state police’s attitude towards state journalists, which have killed 2 journalists in last 2 months with another young TV journalist Santanu Bhaumik was killed on Sep 20 in a political clash at Mandai, but in that case also without giving CBI the case was handed over to SIT but Tripura Police failed to nab the culprits.
CPI-M’s major involvement in both the cases have been alleged by the oppositions and also the journalists.
From Dharmanagar to Agartala, Udaipur----all sections of journalists have demanded CBI investigation in Sudip Datta Bhaumik’s murder case.
However, the strike response is at the maximum level as all shops, schools, colleges remained closed since the morning. BJP raised many protest rallies in Tripura and Congress in front of Congress Bhawan has burnt tires slamming the anarchy of Manik Sarkar’s regime.
On the other side Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s residence have brought under tight security since the day of journalist’s murder and today also the security has been beefed up at there.
