AGARTALA, August 16 (TIWN): Tripura is currently having highest inflation rate across the country, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Dr. Ashok Sinha said here today.Addressing the media at the Pradesh Congress Bhawan in Agartala this afternoon, PCC spokesperson Dr. Sinha quoted the latest National Consumer Price Index report and said that Tripura was having 20.6 percent highest inflation rate – the highest across the country. He said that the situation indicated poor control of the state government over the internal market.“People from the common lower income group suffers the most due to such situations. On the contrary, the Dearness Allowance (DA) and DR allowed to state government employees and pensioners is one of the lowest in the country. This is totally in disconnect with the requirementâ€, the PCC leader said.
He sought intervention from the state government to raise the agricultural labour wages from Rs. 135 to Rs. 150 per day and then seek to raise the NREGS wage rate to Rs. 200 per man-day. “We hereby place the demand of raising NREGS man-day wage rate from Rs. 135 to Rs. 200. But the issue wouldn’t be fulfilled by the central government unless the state fulfilled its prerequisite by raising the agricultural labourer wages”, Dr. Sinha said.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli has the lowest inflation rate in the country according to the latest consumer price index. Gujarat has 6.3 percent inflation and Tripura has 20.6 percent inflation, nearly double above the state with the second highest inflation – Meghalaya.
