Rajeswari Tourist Festival begins

Santirbazar, Oct 19 (TIWN): Two days Rajeswari Tourist Festival has been started at Muhuripur Rajeswari Kali Mandir, where as rare 8th Century old Statue in the Temple is situated near Muhuri River by the side of Pilak Tourist Spot under Santirbazar Sub Division.

The 18-handed Mahayana statue, from about 8th century, was placed in a Hindu temple, Raj Rajeswari Temple at an obscure  Muhuripur village in Belonia subdivision in South Tripura. "The statue was discovered in the area about 70 years ago and was housed in an Akhra run by a Sanyashi Harananda Giri. Later the Goddess Kali was worshiped by devotee Radharani Bhairabi as 'Raj Rajeswari'. The six feet tall idol was more than one ton in weight and we had to use bulldozer to bring the deity here.

 It is the Ninth year of Raj Rajeswari Tourist Festival and the festival was started from 2006.On the eve of Kali Puja, Muhuripur Mela committee organized cultural festivals for two days during Kali Puja . This year South District administration will extend monetary help and open many stalls in this two days festival
