BELONIA, August 10: Preparations to observe Independence Day in the district is almost complete.India will be celebrating its 68th Independence Day on August 15. It was on this day in 1947 that the country gained independence from the colonial rule of the British. In Belonia, the celebration will be held at Vidyapith playground. In the morning, the public announcement system will air patriotic songs followed by prabhat pheri. The National Flag will be hoisted at 9 am by the chief guest Hon’able Health Minister Sri Badal Choudhury. However, the time for unfurling the Tricolour by individuals in their residences is 7 am while educational institutions, government departments and business establishments will have to do it half an hour later.

The Chief Guest will take the salute of the march past and deliver his speech. It will be followed by drills, performance of the army band and cultural programmes. Senior citizens and meritorious students will be felicitated on the occasion. 

The District administration has also arranged for the distribution of fruits and sweets among the inmates of Belonia Jail and patients of Belonia Hospital. Sports competitions will be held among children. In the afternoon, the SP XI will play against DM XI in a friendly football match. In the evening, all government and non–government offices will be lit up.
