UDAIPUR, August 10(TIWN): A streetlight has become the death trap for the people for a period of more than six months. And it is not in a remote area, but under Udaipur Municipal Council area. Inspite of repeated complaints neither Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd's Udaipur unit nor Udaipur Municipal Council has yet come to the rescue if the people. What is more surprising is that Ward Councilor Sati Karmakar (Ward no 14) was not even aware of it even a week before. Anyone can see that a tube light is dangerously hanging from the lamp post in Ward no 14 (adjacent to the grocery shop of Uttam Sarkar).

 On Sunday TIWN correspondent while going through this area saw light hanging in switched on mode. It is located in the back side of Rajarbag Motor Stand. Upto 7.39am it was on switched on mode; then the care taker came and turn off the grip from a nearby switch board. Being a conjested area hundreds of school children everyday pass through this road. Anytime it can cause casualty. TSECL has its unit in Rajarbag (in the formerly Panchayat Office building). But none of its staff even visited this death trap once.

A TSECL employee namely Paresh Sarkar lives in this area. People of Ward no 14 also requested him to take initiative for the interest of the people of this area but without any result.

Interestingly Sati Karmakar, Councilor of Ward no 14 of Udaipur Municipal Area advised the people, "Within a few days TSECL will start repair works for Durga Puja. During this time it will install a new set if light in that post removing the old ones." But when the people asked what she will do if anything happens in between, the Councilor is alleged to remain silent. Surely TSECL must remove this old light set hanging from the post and install a new set without further loss of time.
