Agartala, August 8 (TIWN): A delegation of six senior leaders of the Tripura state CPI (M) state committee including Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday left for New Delhi to attend the politburo and central committee meeting.

A highly placed source in the ruling CPI (M) today said that the party’s state general secretary Bijan Dhar, former MP Bajuban Riyan, Rama Das, finance minister Badal Choudhury and minister of agriculture Aghore Debbarma left for Delhi to attend the central committee meeting starting from Friday.

Former MP Khagen Das, who was supposed to attend the central committee meeting, would be skipping the session due to physical ailments. He is currently undergoing treatment out of the country, the source said.

A brief politburo meeting reportedly preceded the central committee meeting today at Delhi. Politburo member from Tripura Manik Sarkar attended the meeting.

The second half started with the central committee meet which is expected to draw conclusions on the venue, time, schedule and agenda of the next party congress. “If everything goes right, the next party congress would be held in April, 2015”, the source said.

The 20th party congress of CPI (M) was held at Kozhikode in April, 2012. The session decided to make a major shift of policies from the Soviet Russian model of communist struggle to the Latina American model of alternative path of development.

“Latin America showed that there can be an alternative path of development to the neo-liberal policies. Communists and Left forces around the world should build and strengthen the anti-imperialist movements and unite the working people against the predatory exploitation of finance-driven capitalism so that a political alternative to the system emerges. To get out of systemic crisis the only alternative is socialism. The strengthening of the working class movement and the building of a broad-based Left political alternative is the need of the times”, the party said after the 20th party congress.

A separate source in the party today said that CPI (M) is trying to devise a strategic policy to revive from the disastrous results of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections where its presence in the Parliament were dramatically reduced to 11.
