Agartala, August 7 (TIWN): The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Thursday heavily came down upon Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for his allegedly insulting and irresponsible statement at the inauguration ceremony of Sonamura District and Sessions Judge Court where he said that the Court didn’t have the right to snatch away morsels from the hungry while it wasn’t able to ensure them food.

Addressing the media at the Pradesh Congress Bhawan in Agartala here this afternoon, leader of the opposition Sudip Roy Barman today said that the Chief Minister deliberately made the statement at the inauguration ceremony of the Sonamura court on Wednesday to create pressure on the judiciary. Members of his cabinet and leaders of the ruling CPI (M) party had been making continued statements against the jurisdiction and credibility of the High Court since it issued the verdict on May 07 earlier this year cancelling the jobs of 10,323 Graduate, Under Graduate and Post Graduate Teachers, Roy Barman said.

He alleged that the ruling party and the government had trapped all three pillars of democracy including media in the magic bottle of unilateral governance since the last two decade. “This is their design to destroy public trust on the judiciary, the last of the pillars of democracy that is still functionaland delivering in Tripura”, the opposition leader said.

The party today sought unconditional apology and withdrawal of the Chief Minister’s allegation upon the High Court of Tripura.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wedneday said without naming anybody in particular at the inauguration ceremony of Sonamura District and Sessions Judge Court that one shouldn’t try to touch the skies while their feet were still implanted on the ground.

He said that one shouldn’t try to snatch away morsels from the plate of the hungry since they can’t give them some at the first place.

Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura – Deepak Gupta, who was also present at the inaugural ceremony on the day, said that judiciary wasn’t about political or personal alignment, nor it was about giving or taking away. “Integrity towards the judicial system is very important and the courts of the state are performing their duties according to the Constitution of India”, he said. PCC spokesperson and advocate Harekishna Bhowmik said that the party’s legal section was scrutinizing the audio tapes of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s speech at the inauguration ceremony. “We will consider if we would go for further legal action if we find that the speech stands tantamount to contempt of court”, he said.

Bhowmik further criticized the Chief Minister’s speech and said that such a statement wasn’t expected from the administrative chief of the state while a Special Leave Petition against the High Court judgment was still sub-judice at the Supreme Court of India.

“The communists never had trust on Indian judiciary; they never will”, he said.

PCC working president Ashish Saha, Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury, party spokesperson Ashok Sinha, Prabir Chakraborty and others attended the media interaction today.
