Agartala, Aug 6 (TIWN):Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and High Court Chief Justice Deepak Gupta jointly on Wednesday inaugurated the new double stories building of additional district and session court at Sonamura of Sephijala District by lighting the traditional lamp here in a well-attended function.
Chief Minister later addressing the function congratulated the legal community for the building in their sub-division and expressed satisfaction that district administration had completed the new building in a record time. He also assured the lawyers that more facilities would be provided to them in future.
All those concerned must give attention to reduce the number of pending cases in the courts but justice delivery system cannot be allowed to be halted, Chief Justice Deepak Gupta said.On pendency of cases, he said it could not be avoided because the judge-population ratio at present was 12 for a million population against the required 50 judges for one million as suggested by the Supreme Court and also the Finance Commission.
Justice delivery system could be taken to the doorstep of the people with Lok Adalat solving the cases as pre-litigation matters and for this active cooperation from the bar and judicial officers were required, the Chief Justice said.
In his welcome address Law Secretary Datamohan Jamatia stated that the new court building was built at cost of Rs 3.50 crore . Minster of Law Tapan Chakraborty was also present in the program.
