AGARTALA, August 1 (TIWN): Tripura is celebrating the success of Dipa Karmakar’s splendid achievement in the Commonwealth Games. State’s Sport Minister Sahid Choudhury expressed his delight on her achievement and said that Dipa had made people of the state and the nation proud by her commendable feat. Leader of opposition Sudip Roy Barman, former minister and convener of the Tripura Trinamool Congress Committee Ratan Chakraborty demanded appropriate recognition for Dipa and said that the government ought to recognize the talent and show proper honour for her.

Dipa made a historic performance on July 31 which brought her bronze medal in gymnastics in the Commonwealth Games. She happens to be the first woman in the country who won a bronze medal on gymnastics. Celebrations were found across the state for her victory from physical to social circles. From facebook to every level, even small boys and girls rushed to her house and shared their happiness with her parents and family members.

In his reaction to Dipa’s achievement, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sahid Choudhury said, “I am very happy and wish her a bright Future. Her remarkable achievement makes me proud as a citizen of Tripura and the country”. Expressing his delight with TIWN, the sports minister said that Dipa’s achievement as the first Indian woman to make it in the CWG would go down in history.

“I hope that Dipa will bring Gold Medal for Tripura & India at Asian Games”, he said. However the minister didn’t forget to wish her parents and teacher for whom this becomes possible.

Ex-Minister & State Trinamool Congress’s Convener Ratan Chakraborty said, ‘I feel proud of her performance. I have personally greeted her.’ He further added that Dipa’s success shows that Tripura has scholars in sports area.

They would bring further laurels for the state in the days ahead if nurtured properly, Chakraborty quipped. He demanded financial package and a grand felicitation for Dipa. Congratulating Dipa, Leader of Opposition Sudip Roy Barman said, “She makes Tripura as well as India proud. It is a good feeling for all of us and her performance stands Tripura in International status.”

Seeking the attention of the state government, Leader of opposition Roy Barman said that Dipa deserved a good felicitation. The opposition party would soon meet the state govt to demand something beyond her current achievements, he added.
