AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): To review the progress of Srinagar border haat in Sabroom sub-division along Indo-Bangla international border at Tripura, a vital meeting was organised at Krishnagar Panchayat, here today. To boost the bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, the foundation stone was laid for this border haat few months back.During the meeting, several decisions were taken in connection with the border haat.
These are the construction of concrete and cement medalling for border haat road will be completed by the 1st week of August, this year. Approach road of border haat for construction of brick soling work will be done by the BDO, Poangbari RD block which near about 900 meters and then it will be handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) for further construction of medalling and carpeting of Haat road at Srinagar. List of the vendors will be selected by the Border Haat Committee, Srinagar.
List of articles/commodities and restriction for items will be submitted by the Superintended of Customs, Sabroom to the BDO of Poangbari RD Block within July 30. The entire construction work of border haat will be implemented by the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC).
It is may be noted here, the first border haat was set up in 2012 at Kalaichar in West Garo hills of Meghalaya. The haat is situated at the zero line of the international border at Srinagar with one part on the Indian side and the other in Bangladesh.
According an official source, no local taxes would be imposed on the items to be sold in the haat and currencies of both countries would be in use. Initially 16 items were short listed which include agricultural and horticultural crops, spices, minor forest products excluding timber, fish and dry fish, dairy and poultry products, cottage industry items, wooden furniture, hand-loom and handicraft items, the source added. Residents of that area have demanded for selling and purchasing of dry fish in the border haat.
The SDM Sabroom- Rajib Datta, BDO of Poangbari RD block- Manik Lal Das including many other high officials attended the meeting.
