AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): Over 13 thousand people, who shifted from rural areas to being civic residents in the last reorganization of civic areas and expansion of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, would be given benefits of the Tripura Urban Employment Programme (TUEP), a highly placed source in the state government said.
The source today said that a meeting of the state cabinet recently said that a lot of BPL card holders came to live inside the city areas since the formation of ten new nagar panchayats in January, 2014 and transformation of the Agartala Municipal Council to a municipal corporation.
“We have decided to allow TUEP benefits to these families from now on. Many of them were covered by the State Urban Employment Programme beforehand”, the source said. He added that the state government earlier operationalized the State Urban Employment Programme (SUEP) till the TUEP was started in 2009-2010.
The state government spent Rs. 3 crore under the SUEP in 2008-2009, the last year of its operation. It launched the programme for generation of wage employment to BPL family members of urban Sector.
The project was maintained to ensure employment opportunity for BPL family members of urban local bodies by generating mandays. Mandays were generated to the tune of 1,70,000 during 2006-07.
