Former Congress PM remembered on 26th death anniversary

AGARTALA, May 21 (TIWN): Along with the nation, Tripura also remembered the Former Prime Minister Rajib Gandhi on his 26th death anniversary at the Congress Bhawan on Sunday.

Paying tribute to former Prime Minister, West Tripura Leader of the opposition, Tripura Legislative Assembly Gopal Roy has hosted the National flag and began the session by singing National anthem, said sources.

Further detailing about the program, sources enhanced that PCC President Birjit Sinha has hosted the party flag and offered flower in the memory of former PM Gandhi. Youth Congress Vice-President Shusanta Chakraborty along with others remembered Rajiv Gandhi, who was killed by a suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriprumbudur in Tamil Nadu in the night of May 21, 1991.

During the program, they also visited the Gandhighat and paid homage at his memorial along with Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, confirmed sources.

The death anniversary of former PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi has been also observed as an Anti Terrorism Day to promote Peace and Harmony all over the Country. It was on May 21, 1991 that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fell in the trap of terrorists.

On the other hand, in the remembrances of PM Gandhi a blood donation camp was observed at Udaipur District Congress Bhawan. The program was inaugurated by MLA Pranajit Singha Roy. President of District Congress Kajal Das, PCC Secretary Titan Paul along with others were present.
