AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): A GST Dissemination workshop held at Pargna Bhawan chaired by Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha and opposition MLAs, generated debate regarding the Central Govt's profit from GST implementation in Tripura. Congress MLA Ratan Lal Nath raised question, why no resource person is chairing the workshop who can ease the GST issues to the public. The MLA further raised question, whereas "Traders with a turnover of less than Rs 10 lakh a year won’t have to register for or pay the goods and service tax (GST)", will Tripura in coming day virtually pay any taxes ? However, the programme was fully controlled by Tripura Govt Officials, whereas they could easily invite some NITI Aayog members from New Delhi or resource person. Question also raised by the MLA, "Will Tripura Govt try to 'stand on its feet' ever ? or being the Northeastern State it will continue to beg money from the Central Govt ?"

M Nagaraju, the Principal Secretary however, tried to sort out the debate saying that due to common tax system businessmen will surely come and it will surely help the Central revenue, also adding that 'GST is such a complex economic move initiated by the Central Govt'.

'GST has also  fixed rates of taxes for different goods and services by fitting them into the four approved slabs of 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent', Tripura official said at Pragna Bhawan. The official also mentioned firmly about the 'Compensation for loss in revenue for long 5 years by the Central Govt', which also raised doubt about Tripura Govt's initiative for actual development.

MLA Ratan Lal Nath clearly mentioned that 'No Industry will come in Tripura, but we are setting the benefits out of GST"?

However, GST will equalize the taxes across India, that may draw the industrialists, said in the statement of Finance Minister.
