One more killed in malaria outbreak, drug procurement continues

Agartala, July 10 (TIWN): Malaria outbreak continued with one more person reported to have died from the disease on Thursday, official sources said.
Pradip Reang (2), son of Frongshourai Reang of Doharampara in Anandabazaar ADC village of North Tripura district was reported to have died at Kanchanpur sub-divisional hospital today. Pradip was under treatment with malaria confirmed during blood tests at the hospital, an official communiqué said later this evening.

Over 1,091 patients were freshly diagnosed with malaria parasite today. Over seven thousand fever patients underwent blood tests at different government hospitals, PHC, CHC, health sub-centers and health camps on the day.

An official of the state Health Department said this evening that the malaria infected population toay crossed 27,390.

Procurement of anti malaria drugs is continuing inside and outside the state today. Drugs consignments recently arrived from Haryana, Orissa, Assam and Karnataka. The state government wrote to the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan to approve more anti malaria drugs for Tripura. Further medicine consignments would be arriving soon.

An unofficial source from the GB Hospital informed this evening that a child from an indigenous family, who was admitted two days back with malaria, died this afternoon. The child’s family raised allegations of lack of proper treatment from hospital authorities.

No official confirmation could be obtained in this regard.
